A Little About Me

I'm from San Antonio and graduated from Wayland Baptist University with an MA in Counseling. I am a licensed professional counselor with training in cognitive behavior therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy. During my own journey of self discovery and self acceptance, I have learned to value the need for mental health support. It's important that I remember to fill my own cup by nurturing my mental health as well. My mantra is “Put the oxygen mask on yourself, before you can help those you love”. Taking time to care for my mental health and well being is vital to serving you and helping you connect with your peace and enjoyment in life. If you’re struggling to get your life back after a traumatic event, please know you are doing the best you can at this time and there is help. You don't have to do this alone. Positive change is possible with help. Together we can learn how to fill your cup with hope, gratitude, and compassion.

My Approach

As your therapist, I support your healing journey and self discovery after a trauma. I specialize in a trauma-focused approach using CBT, DBT and ACT therapeutic approaches. You can expect us to work together to implement and practice coping skills to help improve emotional regulation, improving your interpersonal skills, and increasing distress tolerance when stressful situations arise. In therapy, you can practice addressing past traumas that have affected your behaviors, choices, and have negatively impacted your daily life. It is vital to practice focusing on decreasing negative behaviors that have hindered your well-being by implementing a personalized treatment plan. Whether online or in-person, I am here to help you practice living your best life. You don't have to do this alone. We are here to help empower you and reclaim your life.

“Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary.”

— Fred Rogers

Meet Your Therapist

  • Vicky Maldonado LPC

Hello, I'm Vicky Maldonado. I received my Master's Degree in Counseling from Wayland Baptist University in 2021. Over the past three years, my focus has been on working with adolescents grappling with various challenges such as anxiety, defiance disorders, and depression.

Now, I often work with adults struggling with emotional dysregulation, social isolation, and childhood trauma. My work extends beyond teenagers, where I assist in fostering open communication, establishing boundaries, and facilitating emotional expression — skills that benefit individuals of all ages. Central to my approach is empowering individuals to recognize their strengths and address their needs.

You can expect us to work together to implement and practice coping skills to help improve emotional regulation, enhance your interpersonal skills, and increase distress tolerance when stressful situations arise. In therapy, you can practice addressing past traumas that have affected your behaviors, choices, and negatively impacted your daily life.
